It is still an underdiagnosed but clinically relevant cause, especially after lumbar surgery, pregnancy, or in those who perform repetitive movements (athletes, manual laborers). <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What is the sacroiliac joint?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<p>It is a large joint that connects the base of the spine (sacrum) to the pelvis (iliac bone). Its mobility is minimal, but it plays a crucial role in transferring body weight to the legs. <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What are the typical symptoms?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Pain in the lower back, often on one side<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Irradiation to the buttocks, groin, or back of the thigh<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Pain that worsens when standing, walking for long periods, or climbing stairs<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Often improvement when sitting or leaning forward<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Often improvement when sitting or leaning forward<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>How is the diagnosis made?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<p>The diagnosis is based on:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Thorough clinical examination with provocative tests<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Diagnostic infiltration: Under radiological guidance, an anesthetic is injected into the SIJ.
