The most common form is the hypermobile type (hEDS), often associated with widespread <strong>chronic pain<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Why Does it Hurt?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<p>Pain in EDS can be caused by several factors:<\/p>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-nowrap is-layout-flex wp-container-core-group-is-layout-6c531013 wp-block-group-is-layout-flex\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Musculoskeletal pain<\/strong> due to joint instability or repeated trauma<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Myofascial pain<\/strong> (trigger points)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Neuropathic pain<\/strong> (nerve issues)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Headaches, neck pain, abdominal or pelvic pain<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In some cases: <strong>fibromyalgia<\/strong> and <strong>central sensitization<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-nowrap is-layout-flex wp-container-core-group-is-layout-6c531013 wp-block-group-is-layout-flex\">\n<p>Pain can start as early as childhood and often worsens over time, affecting quality of life. Some patients may also experience mood disorders, anxiety, or chronic fatigue.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>How is it Treated?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<p>Pain in EDS is <strong>complex<\/strong> and requires a <strong>multidisciplinary<\/strong> and personalized approach:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Physiotherapy<\/strong><br\/>To improve joint stability, posture, and daily functionality. It is a fundamental part of treatment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Psychotherapy<\/strong><br\/>Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) can help manage fear of movement (called <em>kinesiophobia<\/em>) and chronic pain.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Medications<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Paracetamol, NSAIDs, COX-2 inhibitors (with caution)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Muscle relaxants for muscle spasms<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Antidepressants or anticonvulsants for neuropathic pain<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Opioids may be used only for acute episodes and with extreme caution<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/tidolore.ch\/staging\/en\/transcutaneous-electrical-nerve-stimulation\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"1851\">TENS<\/a><\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A small device that stimulates nerves through the skin with mild electrical impulses.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It can help <strong>reduce pain<\/strong> by modulating pain signals locally, safely, and non-invasively.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Interventional techniques<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Trigger point injections<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Peripheral nerve blocks<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Radiofrequency ablation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Peripheral nerve stimulation (PNS): in some cases, it has improved shoulder or knee pain<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Attention<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>People with EDS may have <strong>slow healing<\/strong> and a <strong>higher risk of complications<\/strong> after surgical procedures.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Pain management requires patience, education, and active patient involvement.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Each patient is different<\/strong>; the treatment plan should always be tailored to their needs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What is it?
